Problem

This project was basically to create a memorial poster for the work of someone deceased. I chose to do my poster on Satoru Iwata, a former president and developer for Nintendo. Focusing on his work at Nintendo, I had to find a way to showcase the variety of projects he worked on over the years, which meant coming up with a way to showcase the variety of art styles that were utilized over the time he worked for the company.

Solution

My solution was to keep the design of the poster itself relatively minimal; basic colors, allowing the works to speak for themselves. I also made a point of keeping the individual figures relatively small, with the exception of the iconic image of Mario. I also made a point of including Iwata’s Mii, as he was important in the success of the Wii, and and it allowed me to incorporate an “image” of Iwata into the poster while not having to include a real picture, keeping the work consistent.
